Ultimate X8 III Review
Ironically named ABS Ultimate X8 Stealth Extreme is very noisey and inovative. Looking less like a computer and more like a modem design housing concept because of its bulky case. If you forget about this you may actually start to like this new PC for its low budget performance. Its price can stand up strongly against other high-end gaming PCs. If you’re only want to get the most PC for your money then this ABS makes a perfect argument with this $3,120 system, but after purchasing it you would be more likely to store it under your desk or maybe in a soundproof room.
Cause of Windows Vista, ABS offers us in only one piece the performance of two GeForce 8800GTX video cards in SLI mode, becoming the best gaming card of choice. When combined with a 3.2GHz Core 2 Extreme QX6700 chip (that’s overclocked from 2.66GHz), 2GB of 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM, two 150GB, 10,000 rpm hard drives and the X8 Stealth Extreme it becomes almost the same with the non-overclocked Polywell Poly i680, which makes although a major difference. This configuration is what I think of a perfect gaming PC.

The X8 Stealth Extreme finishes roughly where it was suppose to except for CNET Labs’ Photoshop benchmark. With the help of its tuned processor and to its GeForce 8800 GTX graphics, it managed to complete all of the iTunes and CineBench tests, and it was surprisingly satisfying even at very high resolutions. All of the other comparable systems use Windows XP, but except to Gateway which has a 4GB ram, for ABS’s 2GB only. A suggestion would be that you shouldn’t purchase this Alienware Area-51 7500 if your primary goal is rendering photos, since the new X8 Stealth Extreme costs nearly $2,500 less, although is slower.
Even if is not the best combo for photo editing, it is not recommended for its noisy asset. It has a Gigabyte 3D Galaxy II liquid cooling set up which involves mounting a heat exchanger on the outside of the system and snaking thick plastic tubing around the inside of the PC. Is not something that we didn’t see at ABS before but it loses points as we’ve seen much more quite PCs, as Gateway and its FX530XT with a Core 2 Extreme QX6700 overclocked to 3.2GHz with only a stock cooling fan.
The Ultimate X8 III comes with the requisite two optical drive combo of a dual-layer DVD burner and standard DVD-ROM drive, but with an new model of increased speed, 18x model, which should help you a lot in your reading disk task. As you have no media card included, it was necessary to have a slot opened for such thing (in case that you want to add one), and there is also space for two more hard drives, two more sticks of memory, and at least one other graphics card, although you shouldn’t try and add another GeForce 8800 GTX, because of it 850 watt power supply, but which you can improve to 1,100 watt PSU, for just $28 extra bucks.
The ABS’s online support isn’t very satisfying since its FAQ and its driver download selections are incomplete, and since while is not 24-7, phone support is available for a generous-enough window, from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. PT, Monday through Friday, and on Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
