UK Plans to Only Use Wind Energy by 2020
UK couldn’t stay away from those new efficient ways of power generation, so it unveiled it’s plans to only use wind power by 2020. They are advantaged by the shallow waters that are great places to build wind farms, but there’s a lot of work to do, considering they are currently generating only 2% of their energy using wind power.
They aren’t very glad to to this, because the wind farms will definitely change UK’s coasts, but they have no choice, due to the need for energy self-sufficiency. Also they are interested in the environment and will follow their plans basing on environmental studies.
The British Wind Energy Association stated that it’s very difficult to raise the wind power production to 33 gigawatts in only 12 years from just a gigawatt, that they currently produce. 33 gigawatts represent UKs power consumption and in the next 12 years it might considerably increase, so that means they must generate even more than that.
Their current plans include wind farms that will produce eight gigawatts of energy and the British Wind Energy Association said they won’t be able to produce more than 20 gigawatts of energy, due to the limited supply of wind turbines.
