Tegra, The Mobile Computer On A Chip

With a number of solid partnerships and lots of hard work, NVIDIA are set to take Intel’s smartphone makers and MID market with the Tegra concept, described as a “mobile computer on a chip” architecture. As they work for quite a while on this project, products are already planned for Q4 2008 and Q1 / Q2 2009.
The Tegra line will consist of all the functions integrated on a single chip; components such as GeForce GPU, an 800MHz ARM CPU, HD video processor, image processor and other essential controllers like USB ports and memory will be all put together on the single chip.
The chips will be able to run games like Quake 3 at rates of more than 40 FPS and will also have WSXGA+ LCD, 1080p HDMI and NTSC/PAL TV outs. 130 hours of audio media will be supported by a single charge. This looks like one of the most promising projects in 2008, and many of us are anxious to check its capabilities.
