Roll-To-Roll OLEDs Are The Wallpapers Of The Future
[23 Apr 2008 | No Comment | ]

About one month ago, we announced that General Electric managed to develop roll-to-roll OLEDs and this means that one day we could decorate our room with paper-thin lights with controlled intensity and colors. This technique it’s similar with printing press which means that they are very efficient but the researchers need to make it more cost-effective.
The man who made it all possible is Anil Duggal, Advanced Technology Leader for Organic Electronic at GE Global Research who also promises that soon, these OLEDs will be very cheap that everyone will afford …

Researchers Develop Active-Matrix OLED Displays
[13 Apr 2008 | No Comment | ]

A team of researchers from the Purdue University have managed to create the first Active Matrix display which consists of transparent transistors made of nanowires. These tiny circuits created the display using OLEDs because they can rival with the brightness of the pixels from a LCD screen.
David Janes, researcher at the Birck Nanotechnology Center of the Purdue University, said that this demonstrates that nanowires transistors can be used in displays and other applications. OLEDs were the best solution because they are already used in cell phone and MP3 displays, as …

The First Table Light Using Organic LEDs
[10 Apr 2008 | One Comment | ]

We have been hearing of organic LEDs (OLEDs) for quite some time now, as they are supposed to be a new way to produce light with very little energy and can last for years before being replaced. Although there wouldn’t be much point in releasing to the market a lamp using this technology, because of the high price it would have, OSRAM has just announced their new product, which is exactly this lamp.
The desk lamp is called ‘Early Future’ and includes ten different OLED tiles of 132 X 33 mm …

Osram Develops Efficient, Bright And Warm OLEDs
[7 Apr 2008 | No Comment | ]

For the next generation of lighting you can either choose from LEDs or OLEDs. Currently, LEDs seem to have gained an advantage but the in the OLED technology, Osram has managed a breakthrough that allowed them to develop warm white OLEDs.
The study began about two years ago and now the results are finally showing off. Osram says that their OLEDs have an efficiency of 46 lm/W, a brightness of about 1000 cd/m2 and an endurance of more than 5000 hours. The researchers from Osram started a project called 500 lm …

Cool Laptop Concepts Part III - Compenion
[2 Apr 2008 | No Comment | ]

This laptop concept is among my favorites because it features something that I really like and I would love to see it on every type of laptops or ultraportables - it’s the OLED touchscreen. If you were thinking that this is just about all that he’s got, you were wrong - if you will slide the first OLED touchscreen, under it you will find another OLED touchscreen that supports keyboard and other functions. The laptop concept is called Compenion, it was designed by Felix Schmidberger and it will enter on …

Printed OLEDs Designed By GE Researchers
[13 Mar 2008 | No Comment | ]

The organic light-emitting diode or OLED technology is really starting to get under everybody’s skin. They look very cool and they lighten up your house or whatever you want. Now, the first OLEDs were printed roll-to-roll, just like a newspaper and the developers of this project are the researchers from GE who worked four years in order to complete this project. We expect that the commercialization of the printed OLEDs will begin very soon.

Damian Savio, a 23-year-old industrial design student from the University of Western Sydney has designed a lightning system for the window space, inspired from the Breezway window louver system. The Lightway uses OLEDs, with an advanced transparent Photovoltaic Nanoscale technology, that allows your home to be lighted by sunlight during daytime and lights it during the night.
The invention seems to be both useful and stylish, offering a unique style to your home. Those might be the stained-glass of the future.
