With a number of solid partnerships and lots of hard work, NVIDIA are set to take Intel’s smartphone makers and MID market with the Tegra concept, described as a “mobile computer on a chip” architecture. As they work for quite a while on this project, products are already planned for Q4 2008 and Q1 / Q2 2009.

In our previous posts about the Intel Atom processor we were unable to provide more informations about the model due to the very little data leaking out of the Intel labs. Today, rumors are gathering up, as more details come in about the Atom series.

We didn’t hear too much from Dell about the 500 laptop, we only knew that it’s coming and many thought that it might compete with Asus’ ultraportable, Eee PC. Well, know the speculation is over as on Dell’s support site appeared the Vostro 500 which is based on Intel’s version of Vostro 1000 using a Celeron processor and Intel’s 965 graphics. The Vostro 500 will feature a 15.4 display which is more than enough for most of us.

It seems that Intel has found a new goldmine to exploit in the Atom processors, a new generation of chips designed primarily for the mobile market. It is expected that one chip will cost between $6 to $8 in which the production, packaging and shipping prices are included.
The launch of new item is believed to be the biggest product launch of Intel after the release of the Pentium processors. Atom (previously known as Silverthorn) will have a production cost near the one for a 286 CPU, as Intel states, and …

Microsoft and Intel are the biggest companies from the software and, respectively, from the hardware market, but that didn`t stop them to come together with a $20 million grant for two universities. With these funds, Universal Parallel Computing Research Centers from UC -Berkeley and The University of Illinois at Champaign, Urbana will have to research and develop a way to make “parallelism so easy to use that parallel programming becomes synonymous with programming”, according to the head of the UIUC lab, Mark Snir.
He was referring to the fact that in …

The new technology called array-based memory has been under development at Nanochip, Inc. for 12 years, and looks like the time has come for this company to harvest their rewards for the work and money invested all this time.
This new system is expected to bypass current NAND technology, whose possibilities are limited by the miniaturization capability of lithography, and reach a level of one TB of data on a single chip.
According to Computerworld, Nanochip Inc. are backed by Intel and other strong companies and by 2010 the first chip is …

According to Intel, they had found a way to improve the Wi-Fi signal area and now they are able to connect antennas located 96 miles away from each other. Jeff Galinovsky, senior platform manager at Intel, called this new Wi-Fi tech Rural Connectivity Platform or RCP. The name cames from the fact that this wireless is destined to connect to the internet far away villages.
With the RCP the information is transmitted at about 6.5 Megabits per second and will be very useful for telemedicine and video conferences. The secret behind …

Intel’s first mobile quad-core CPU is preparing to get released in Q3 this year, but the company isn’t expecting it to become a standard for high-end notebooks until Q3 2009. The 45nm 2.53Ghz Core 2 Extreme Q9300 will support FSB speeds of up to 1066Mhz and feature 12MB L2 cache, with a max TDP of 45W, being priced at $1,038 in bulk. It’s headed to pricy notebooks, designed especially for gaming and other advanced tasks, that need a lot of resources.

Intel has released low consumption, small SSD chips in December, that were consuming 1.1mW while idle and 300mW while reading/writing, being sized at 12×18×1.8mm. Unfortunately their Z-P140 PATA SSD are’t very good on speed, with only 16GB capacity and speeds of 40MB/s reading and 30MB/s writing.
Now Intel is going to use the new MLC ( multi-level cell ) chips for the 1.8″ and 2.5″ SSDs and the drives will have capacities from 80Gb to 160GB, using the SATA II interface.
Good news are that SDD prices will probably drop with 35 …

Intel has just made official that it will rename it’s chips to Atom and Centrino Atom. It was the case because the names they were using were quite hard to keep in mind and the new ones are definitely more easier and sound better. The Silverthorn and Diamondville chips were renamed Atom, while the Menlow platform is now called Centrino Atom. Intel’s 45nm Atom and Centrino Atom technologies are headed to UMPCs and other small low-voltage devices. We should soon see PCs with Intel Atom and Intel Centrino Atom stickers.

Intel is preparing to add two new Xeon architectures, the Dunnington and Nehalem to the Penryn family. The Dunnington is a six-core 45nm and will replace the Xeon Tigerton, that was using two Core 2 Duo 65nm processors. Dunnington is going to have three 45nm dual-core banks.
The Dunnington features 16MB of L3 cache shared by it’s six processors and 3MB of L2 cache for each dual-core bank. Fortunately, the Dunnington processors will be compatible with Tigerton processors and Clarksboro chipset and are expected to be released in Q3 2008.
The Nehalem …

Intel made an official announcement that they have changed Skulltrail’s name into the Intel Dual Socket Extreme Desktop Platform. Not a very wide decision I think, but they probably know better. The gaming platform is based on the D5400XS and on the 3.2GHz QX9775 Core 2 Extreme chips, priced at $649 and $1,499 respectively.
The test results show that the 3DMark06 score was of 6481 and the Cinebench 10 score was of 20,160 when combined with the CrossFire ATI Radeon HD 3870 cards. Reports say that they will start shipping the ex-Skulltrail as …

Rumors say that we might see PCs branded with the Centrino 2 brand if they meet some minimum specifications. And it probably was the time to do it, because it was a bit blurry with all those processors branded as Centrino. Now the Centrino 2 will mean Montevina with 45nm support, Core 2 Duo Penryn processors, DDR3 memory, 1066Mhz FSB and WiMax. View the image above to understand more clearly and for more details.
