Sony KDS-60A2000
Sony takes it’s HDTV very seriously. And if it’s image quality and stunning picture you’re looking for, this is the one.
It measures 55.75 by 39 by 20 inches (WHD) and weighs 94 pounds. The 60-inch screen is framed by a black frame that covers the silver cabinet. The remote can operate three other devices and the clicker is equiped with controls for BD/DVD gear. The buttons and tools are very easy to use; there are also a lot of useful shortcuts and the menu design gives text explanations when needed. It has (LCoS-derived) SXRD-branded; one for red, one for green, one for blue. Each has 1,920×1,080 discrete pixels. Although it lacks picture-in-picture and its variant, there is a freeze option which allows you to devote half the screen to a still image.
You can select from a variety of controls and sets. This allowes you to choose four color-temperature presets. The picture quality is very good, there are a lot of details in the shadows, the grayscale tracking is also very good and so is the detail with standard-def source. There are three component-video inputs and a PC input. But the downside is the VGA connection. On the bottom, there are two mounted speakers.
So, is the image quality and the incredible amount of picture control enough to compensate no picture-in-picture and sometimes inaccurate primary colors? Probably yes. But it’s expensive. Price is $2599.99.
