Sony DAV-X1V

1 January 2007 One Comment

The Sony DAV-X1V is a high quality home theater system. The system has 3 channels ( 2.1 ), a subwoofer and two satelites, with a station. The speakers are small, but are looking very stylish. The subwoofer looks like the satelites, but is bigger and it weights more than 20 pounds.

The system is powerful enough for a big room and home usage, with 38 watts each speaker. It can hold five CDs or DVDs and can play a lot of file types, like MP3, DivX or JPG.

The DAV-X1V can hold 30 station presets for the AM/FM tuner, but it doesn’t have a headphone jack, which is a bit disturbing. The satelites include each a 1″ tweeter and 2″ woofers and the subwoofer has two 6″ woofers, smartly placed inside the box.
Of course it can’t create a great surround experience, because it’s not a 7.1 or 5.1 channel and it’s impossible to realize it with only 2 satelites and a subwoofer, but the sound is great and the user can choose from two surround modes.

Only the European model plays Divx format. According the the manual (and verified by me) the US model does NOT play Divx. I think it was pretty stupid of Sony to eliminate this feature for non-European models. Anyone know of a way to upgrade or hack the firmware so that it will play Divx?
