Osram Develops Efficient, Bright And Warm OLEDs

7 April 2008 No Comment

Osram OLED

For the next generation of lighting you can either choose from LEDs or OLEDs. Currently, LEDs seem to have gained an advantage but the in the OLED technology, Osram has managed a breakthrough that allowed them to develop warm white OLEDs.

The study began about two years ago and now the results are finally showing off. Osram says that their OLEDs have an efficiency of 46 lm/W, a brightness of about 1000 cd/m2 and an endurance of more than 5000 hours. The researchers from Osram started a project called 500 lm Multi-OLED Module that will allow the OLEDs to manage 500 lm with a consumption of less than 10 W.

This study will be financed by the European OPAL or Organic Phosphoresce Diodes for Applications on the Lighting Market. Osram believes that they will complete the project by March 2009.
