Microsoft Boasts on the Success of Xbox Live

24 September 2007 No Comment

xbox live screenshotMicrosoft really wants to take the game consoles crown back from Nintendo and their latest announcement seems to want just that. The company just released some statistics on the Xbox 360 and the Live online service. The fact is more Nintendo Wii game consoles were sold but the Xbox 360 still got the most software sales. It seems that gamers from around the world have purchased 24.3 million units of software for Microsoft’s console. The PS3 and Wii combined just gathered 19.8 million units. Xbox 360 also announced that there have been 6.3 games sold per each xbox 360 owner out there.

Another interesting statement was made in connection with Xbox Live. Microsoft called it “the largest social network in the living room”. The company did not fail to highlight that there are around 2.6 million voice messages, text messages and IM sent every single day through the Live service. We have a bit over 7 million users registered for Live and the company hopes to reach around 10 million by June 2008. On the other hand, the most popular game played on Xbox Live is an original Xbox game, not an Xbox 360 game. This makes us wonder if the success of Xbox Live is caused by the existence of other games, launched before the Xbox 360. We will have to wait for the launch of HALO 3, scheduled tomorrow, the 25th of September, to see if it has a similar impact as Halo 2.
