Microsoft Applies Changes to Vista Search
Microsoft recently presented the most important changes it will make to the desktop search function in Windows Vista. This comes after in June it agreed to make the modification to the way this feature works after an attack from Google. The changes will come with the first Windows vista service pack. A beta version of it will be launched in a couple of weeks and the final version should be ready early next year. The official statement showed users that their preferred search results will come from extra entry points in the Start Menu and Windows Explorer with the implementation of SP1. The downside to it all comes as the user needs to register their service by utilizing a new protocol in the service pack.
Three documents are to be released by Microsoft in order to help users understand and implement the changes needed. One will appear on the company’s main site, one on Microsoft’s developer site and the third is still not known where. This move comes after it agreed in court to do this. Now users will see changes in 2 locations: in the start menu and in the command bar withing the Vista explorer system.
