Masi “Hiro” Oka chosen as OLPC global ambassador

Hiro, from the drama series Heroes has been chosen as global ambassador for the OLPC ( One Laptop per Child ) project.Masi Oka, the actor behind Hiro has been nominated for Emmy and Golden Globe and is the star of NBC. From now on, he will appear in online and TV public service announcements to promote the OLPC project, first named as the $100 laptop.
He was born in Japan and moved to the US at the age of 6, graduated Brown University with degrees in Theatre Arts, Mathematics and computer Science, currently working both as an actor and groundbreaking effects provider for ILM for more than 30 movies.
Masi oka stated: “Being a part of a global effort that is enabling children to learn, grow and succeed in life is both tremendously gratifying and important to me. I’m very excited about this opportunity to represent One Laptop per Child and bring my love of technology and education to the global community. I believe that it is incredibly important to enable access to learning for all children so that every child has the opportunity to create a better life for themselves, their family and their society.”
The OLPC has made a lot of fuss all around the world, but they still haven’t managed to achieve their goal by selling the laptops for just $100. Yet, a lot of countries have provided their children with OLPC laptops.
