Intel To Release Better SSDs For Cheap

Intel has released low consumption, small SSD chips in December, that were consuming 1.1mW while idle and 300mW while reading/writing, being sized at 12×18x1.8mm. Unfortunately their Z-P140 PATA SSD are’t very good on speed, with only 16GB capacity and speeds of 40MB/s reading and 30MB/s writing.
Now Intel is going to use the new MLC ( multi-level cell ) chips for the 1.8″ and 2.5″ SSDs and the drives will have capacities from 80Gb to 160GB, using the SATA II interface.
Good news are that SDD prices will probably drop with 35 - 50 percent per year and along with this, the chips will become accessible for everyone and used more often.
