HP MediaSmart Home Server Launch Delayed
Hewlett Packard (HD) just announced the delay in release of the HP MediaSmart Home Server in order to allow Microsoft to fix and make improvements to the Windows Home Server operating system. This comes as a normal reaction to the announcement that Microsoft will be delaying the publishing of Windows Home Server. According to HP, the expected delay is of “75 to 120 days”. This makes the server available late fall, just in time for the holidays.
HP MediaSmart Home Server was supposed to be released at the home theater trade show CEDIA on the 5th of September in Denver. Price and availability thus remains unknown. July saw Microsoft releasing Windows Home Server for manufacturers, giving them the go ahead for bringing different hardware products to the market, including the HP MediaSmart Home Server. According to Joel Sider, Microsoft senior product manager, the first wave of WHS should be available by early October.
HP, Iomega and Gateway were among the companies that Microsoft worked with in order to build home servers under different brands. According to Microsoft, an update on the condition of the Windows Home Server should be available on the product’s official blog tomorrow.
