Although this is just a prototype, we must think that it will eventually become a reality. We are faced with a drive that is capable of playing 100 GB of data from just ONE 4 layers optical disc. There are also hints at the possibility of inventing a 200 GB disc based on 8 layers. OK, this is quite a lot of information to be held on just one disc. Nobody really knows when the 4 layers disc will be released but still, think about it! Holding 100 GB on one disc is kind of risky in my mind because there is always the possibility that the disc will get broken eventually. Nonetheless Hitachi’s 100GB Blu-ray disc drive is soon to appear.
