Digital Image Sensor Made Of 12,616 Lenses

Digital Image Sensor

According to a project involving a concept camera, robots could replace humans in various domains that require delicate tasks. Researchers from Stanford University are trying to put together a digital image sensor which consists of 12,616 with the purpose of generating better 3D images.

This sensor uses a special technique that consists of attaching the lenses directly to the image sensor which means that is not necessary for the main lenses to be high-quality because they are an opening for the lenses. This technology makes the 12,616 lenses to provide a better 3D modeling and imagery.

In the future the digital image sensor could be a solution for surgery because the focusing and the precision is better than the one that humans could have. For the moment the Stanford researchers are only testing the sensor but we expect a breakthrough or some results very soon.
