The New York Exit Art Gallery hosted some cool artistic objects. The one that caught the eye of the public was a machine that was powered by houseflies. The flies are housed inside a plastic sphere and they are treated really well - they can play all day and they have food, water and light.
The technique that makes the machine to walk consists of a sensor that detects the movements of the flies which in turn activates the light patterns that send the data to a microcontroller. The Swarm project was designed by David Bowen who made many other concepts based on the movement of the flies.
