Cowon iAudio U2 (1GB)

29 March 2007 No Comment

It may be old, but the fact that the U2 still remains on the wishlist top can only mean that it’s very good and that it can still deliver, even at today’s requirements.

It measures 2.9 by 1 by 0.7 inches and it weighs 1.2 ounces it can fit in your pocket or purse. They also give you a plastic black-and-gray carrying case. It has a 128×64-pixel display which is small, but there is a lot of information included, artist, album, and track names; time elapsed, time remaining, and a progress bar; graphic music levels; file format and bit-rate info; the current repeat mode; and a battery-life indicator, but it doesn’t have multicolor background lights, just a blue one which you can’t change.

The controls are very easy to use, they are minimalist but intuitive controls. It has the five-way navigation control, a record/A-B repeat button, a play/pause button, and a Hold slider which will get you wherever you need to be in the menus, and they are also very easy to get used to. It also has a standard USB cable as well as a key-size USB adapter for on-the-go PC connectivity. You can just plug the player into your PC’s USB 2.0 port and start transferring. It also comes packed with playback options and you can mix in some bass and treble enhancers using BBE and Mach3Bass.

It lets you create playlists, but it doesn’t support M3U playlists. The sound quality is also very good, you get detailed highs and the mixing options can not be used at all, but they are still nice. It can also be pretty loud. The battery life is 15 hours of music and the 1.86MB per second is not very good, but will have to be enough. Price is $99.99.
