Maxtor BlackArmor: Beauty Meets Security

The growing trend in technological advancement these days is either going green or going secure. With the BlackArmor USB Hard Drive, Maxtor steered its path towards the latter.
The PRO-HG Duo Memory Stick Reaches 30Mbps

The Extreme III Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo is SanDisk’s latest release, and is not exactly an ordinary memory stick. The card enforces its name by supporting an extreme 8Gb of storage space and a 30MBps read and write ability. Read more
Samsung 256GB FlashSSD Announced For September

Samsuns has announced that they will release their first 256GB SSD in September, this year. I can say that it’s very fast as the read speed is about 200MBps and the sequential write is of about 160Mbps. We expect that the MLC-flash SATA II drive to be very expensive and probably that’s why they didn’t say anything bout the price. Their announcement includes information about a 1.8-inch version which is scheduled for Q4 of this year.
Dell XPS M1730 The First With Momentus 7,200-RPM 320GB

Seagate announced that they will begin commercializing the new 7,200-rpm, 320GB SATA disk with 16MB cache, despite the fact that Fujistsu and Hitachi have announced first. The hard-drive is called the Momentus 7200.3 and from now on it’s available on Dell’s XPS M1730 and soon will be available for all Alienware laptops. Actually, the Momentus is the first 7,200-rpm, 320GB hard-drive for mobile computing and for about $46, the XPS M1730 will get the upgrade over the 5,400-rpd, 320GB.
Mtron To Release Pro 7500 – The Fastest SSD Ever

Mtron is probably one of the best storage vendor in the world and the battleship SSD RAID array is really cool. Now they are going to launch the Pro 7500 series of the SSD which Mtron labeled as the fastest on the market. They are almost right because the Greenhouse DH-SSDGD has the same 130MB/s read speed, but the 120MB/s write speed is definitely the fastest ever. I am pretty sure that these SSD’s will cost too much for our pockets.
Data Recovery Services
It happens sometimes to drop your hard drive and can’t use it anymore, because it will break. But you sure remain calm, because the data from it isn’t lost, due to data recovery services. One of those companies is DTI Data Recovery, that perform recoveries in clean rooms authorized by all major Hard Disk Drive Manufacturers.

The advantages when choosing this company are the speed they perform the recovery and low pricing, in comparison with others. Also they are the only company authorized to perform data recovery by the manufacturers. With them, your money and data are safe, because you don’t have to pay until the recovery is done and your data restored.
DTI Data Recovery offers a wide range of services, like clicking laptop hard drives, Exchange or RAID data Recovery, along with Data Recovery software and file undelete tools, to do it yourself.
They are very experienced, with over 100,000 clients in their lifetime of 16 years. You also get 24/7 phone support and a toll-free line if you have any questions.
Their services are widely renowned and the software they create is recognized as reliable by many publications from the industry.
For more informations and news you can read the data recovery blog, where you can get the latest headlines. PC World has just positively reviewed the Free NTFS Partition Repair Software.
There are a lot of failures that can cause physical damage to storage media. Hard disks are mechanical parts and can suffer of head crashes, failed motors or tape breaking. All those problems cause partial data loss or can take the hard drive out of service and you won’t be able to use it anymore.
If you face one of those problems, you might not be able to fix it yourself and need the help of an expert, provided by the DTI Data Recovery. You should not open a hard disk in a normal environment because dust can settle on the surface and damage the platters, complicating the recovery process, so you should call a Class 100 cleanroom facility to recover your data.
Recovering the data from a damaged hard disk can be very hard and need experiences and some special techniques. Some damages require the replacement of some parts in the hard disk, but logical damage can still remain. A procedure to recover the data is the specialized disk imaging that recovers every readable bit from the surface. The image is then analyzed and the original files ystem is reconstructed.
Future MP3 Players Could Store 500,000 GB

Researchers from the University of Glasgow, Scotland have developed a nanotechnology that will revolutionize the “world of storage”. The scientists managed to create a chip that increases the capacity of conventional MP3 Players by 150,000 times which leads to a total of 500,000 GB.
According to Prof. Lee Cronin, one of the authors of the research, they developed a switch the size of a molecule and they were “able to assemble a functional nanocluster that incorporates two electron donating groups, and position them precisely 0.32 nm apart so that they can form a totally new type of molecular switching device”.
This will not enter so easily on the market, as Prof. Cronin said, because they still have to work on a few problems like “fabrication and addressing”. This is wonderful because you could store all the music in the world and never listen to the same song while jogging.
FLX USB Drive Is Small, Flexible And Useful

Nowadays flash drives have become both very small and stylish, all we need more is storage capacity and usefulness. The drive we are talking about isn’t world’s best in storage capacity, but really an interesting concept.
Called FLX, the USB drive is flexible and this helps keeping it’s size small and also the silicone makes it safer, if dropped. It was designed by Jacek Ryn, a design student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk, Poland and uses a colored silicone that offers it’s elasticity.
Super Talent Introduces The Smallest 8GB Flash Drive

The chips that Super Talent are offering are simply incredible. The thing that makes me say that they are very tiny and now the 8GB flash drive is the smallest in the world. The miniature chips measure about 31.3mm x 12.4mm x 3.4mm and they are available for a price of about $35.
The Pico Series supports 200 MB/s meaning about 200x of transfer speed. Its manufacturers made them “portable”, as you can wear them as a necklace or attach them to keychains and cell phones.
Wallet MediCard to Hold All Your Personal Health Records

As science develops, more and more paper is substituted by electro-magnetic devices, because they can stock a lot more data in a more compact volume. That’s why Walletex created probably the first USB Flash Card to keep your entire medical history within, the Wallet MediCard. It can naturally fit in your wallet, so it would be easily found in emergency situations or daily use. Made of double laminated unbreakable plastic, the MediCard is water-proof and can be personalized with your name, picture or other data. In case you’ll lose it, you don’t need to worry about people knowing you entire health rhostiry, because all the data is encrypted and password protected.
Array-Based Memory Makes 1TB Chips Possible

The new technology called array-based memory has been under development at Nanochip, Inc. for 12 years, and looks like the time has come for this company to harvest their rewards for the work and money invested all this time.
This new system is expected to bypass current NAND technology, whose possibilities are limited by the miniaturization capability of lithography, and reach a level of one TB of data on a single chip.
According to Computerworld, Nanochip Inc. are backed by Intel and other strong companies and by 2010 the first chip is expected to store 100GB of data. The chips are not subject to the same manufacturing constraints as traditional flash, so they will be much cheaper per gigabyte.
USB Bomb

Joel Escalona, a Mexican industrial designer uses his spare time to give shape to some uncommon ideas. One of his last “creations” – the USB Bomb – is large enough to hold a pile of flash drives or even a hard disk and might be a real souvenir to have one of these on your desk, if you’ve already enjoyed Bomberman PC game or watched the Road Runner cartoons. The USB Bomb could also symbolize that stealing data from you might be a real danger, so the Internet thieves should think twice before acting.

I’m sure everyone got bored by common USB peripherals design, so Damjan Stankovic came with a new idea, that combines utility with aesthetics. It’s USbee flash drive is flexible and looks like a bee, winning the first prize at the Serbian MS Industrial USB Competition. Also the drive sports a vented housing for cooling and a protective cap. There’s no information about availability or price, or at least if it will get into production, yet.
