Kyocera managed to create a new KJ4 series print head able to print 150 meters per minute at a 600 X 600 dpi resolution. That means 1000 pages per minute! If we do some more math, we realize that is more than 16.5 A4 sheets per second. Yes, you have every right to be amazed.

The print head uses Kyocera’s ceramic piezoelectronics technology to pump much more ink to the pages than a regular printer. Furthermore, they announced that the printer using this insanely fast print head will be available in shops starting next month.

Epson Stylus Photo R1800

It is not the newest the newest thing around, but it has some features which make it still be a good choice for some. It is for the budget-minded, but it also has good quality.

It has eight tanks which are represented by cyan, magenta, yellow, red, and blue, plus a choice of photo black or matte black. The design is nice, makes it easy to use; it has roll-paper capability, which permits prints as large as 13×44 inches. With black-and-white output and gray it does ok, not very good. The writing is easy to see and stands out, but there are some minor irregularities.

It does the work pretty fast, and the good dynamic range and color accuracy is also a good thing. When you don’t use it for weeks, it will not print red, but that is not certain.

The bad thing is that it makes some noise when printing, and it also has some other small quirks. But it is very solid medium-format printer with some nice features. Price is $473.49.

HP Color LaserJet 2840

There is not too much that a sub-$1,000 color laser printer can give you to make it stand out, but the HP Color LaserJet 2840 gives you the best you can get for that price. The prints are very good and it has several interesting features.

It measures 19.6 by 37 by 29 inches and weighs about 75 pounds. It’s not small, but that isn’t something you should expect. The control panel clusters are very well-designed and it’s easy to use; also, it’s interface includes an alphanumeric keypad, one-touch access to the fax phone book, and five speed-dial keys but the feature that you should notice the most is the bank of media-card slots that lets you print photos or proof sheets without using other devices.

The wide feature array should satisfy the office but if you want to use it at home, the bad thing besides that it’s big is that it makes noise when printing. It can print from Secure Digital, xD-Picture card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, SmartMedia, MultiMediaCard and the basics are covered well.

The black text is printed at 7.74ppm. Also, another bad thing is that it has limited paper handling. At least it has automatic document feeder and it can replace many other device which may be crowding the office. Price is $799.88.
