Sony VAIO NR Series Announced

Sony VAIO NR Series

Sony recently announced the VAIO NR Series, the cheapest laptops ever launched by the company and still baring that beautiful textured finish we have come to enjoy with VAIO. We can notice a pretty nice 15.4 inch display and a good enough widescreen resolution at 1280 X 800. The most powerful processor can be noticed on the NR’s most expensive model, an Intel Core 2 Duo platform. In any case, it is not the specs that draw attention with the Sony VAIO NR Series, but the fabric-like finishes. Sony is quoted in saying about the as feeling like “cool linen to the touch”. There are also variations in design as we have one that has a matte silver case looking like linen with rock, one that is Wenge, copper accents on brown texture and Silk, which is quite white but very interesting. If you plan to purchase a Sony VAIO NR series model be ready to pay between $750 (for the 110 model) and just over $800. It looks like this line of models will go on sale next month and we can’t wait to get our hands on one.

Nintendo Conquered UK

Nintendo DS

Nintendo is still dominating the UK video game scene. Of the top 10 selling games in the last week, 8 are exclusive games for Nintendo’s Wii or DS handheld console. What is interesting is that the other two titles are multi-format games that can also be played on Nintendo machines.Number one on the list was Transformers, a title based on the movie that is an all-platform game. Second place was held by DS title Pokemon Diamond and number three was Wii Play. Nintendo Wii is quickly becoming the biggest success story of game consoles history as it currently sold over 9.27 million companies across the world since being launched last year. In the UK it is the biggest thing by far and if we stand to compare the results with that of Microsoft’s it is no surprise at all. The Xbox 360 video game console shipped around 10 million copies but the machine went on sale before the Wii. Sony was a real disaster with just 4.1 million units of PlayStation 3 shipped.

The Nintendo DS handheld console is currently the global market leader, with around 45 million units sold since its introduction in 2004.

AT&T Expands Video Sharing Services With Trax

LG ELectronics Trax mobile phoneLG Electronics recently declared that the new Trax multimedia phone that is to be launched soon will only be available through an exclusive deal with AT&T, a company that is gaining more and more support through the iPhone deal and the expansion of its offers with a nationwide launch of a wireless video-sharing service last month.

Trax is a special device, designed under the shape of a sleek clamshell that connects to AT&T’s 3G UMTS/HSDPA network. This will make it possible for videos to be shared, different video streams to be watched, music to be downloaded and a whole lot more through a high-speed network. The device stands in at a thickness of around half an inch, measures 4 inches by 2 inches and weighs 3.5 ounces. MicroSD memory cards can be included to add storing capability up to 4 GB and Bluetooth wireless technology is supported in hands-free handsets. As with any new device nowadays, Trax also features a 1.3 megapixel camera with in-camera photo editing possibilities.

The price of Trax seems to be very good, at just $130, this after a mail-in rebate and the signing of a two-year service contract. AT&T is quickly gaining new customers and the deal with LG Electronics will combine well with the recent launch of the mobile Video Share service in 160 markets across the United Stats. Two subscribers can share video during any voice conversation.

Trax is not the only phone that will feature the service. Four other handsets can use it: LG CU50a, Sync, Samsung A717 and Samsung A727. Price varies on these devices from $30 to $130. The actual service costs $5 a month for 25 minutes and $10 a month for 60 minutes. There is also another version available at 35 cents per minute.

Fly Mobile SL600

Fly Mobile SL600The Fly Mobile SL600 is a slider phone that comes as the follow up to the Fly Mobile SL500i. It is a lightweight mobile phone and comes to conquer a part of the value-for-money part of the market. It is available at Woolworths, UK, for under 60 pounds and can be purchased from other locations at similar prices.

At a first look the Fly Mobile SL600 is similar with a Samsung slider phone but when looking closer we can see a different design. The mobile phone wieghs 81 grams and has a TFT display in 262 thousands colors at a 176×220 pixel resolution. A 2 megapixel camera with multishot and flash capabilities comes as a must have nowadays in new cell phones and the possibility of expanding memory with microSD cards is again a thumbs up. Multimedia capability includes WAV, 3GP, AAC, MP3 and MP4 and we can also use Java, Bluetooth and the included FM radio.

There is no break through in design with the Fly Mobile SL600 and there is a clear compromise in this case. Battery life is just 2.5 hours of talk time and 6 days in standby mode. The 176×220 pixel display does not stand a chance in competing with the regular 240×320 pixel display the competition presents in numerous models but it is exactly this that keeps weight and price down when combined with battery features.

The Fly Mobile SL600 is very attractive in terms of costs and is available in Black, a two-tone Black and Pink and silver-grey combinations.

Dell Purchases Zing Systems

Dell New Logo Dell will acquire Zing Systems, a company that is specialized in creating software meant for distribution and management of music on mobile devices. This move is thought of being the start of an assault for handheld gadgets by Dell. By using Zing technology you can navigate, store and play music from various digital streams.

There is no secret that Dell is trying to boost sales of computers and different other devices in a market that sees the company as struggling to grow in the US. A line of PCs running on open source Linux operating system was also launched and the opening of the first retail channel with Wal-Mart stores were both moves aimed at the same objective.

Two desktop PCs and a laptop are currently sold with the Ubuntu 7.04 Linux distribution pre-installed in the United States by Dell. Now these versions are also available in Europe and more are believed to come in both continents.  There is no information on the acquiring of Zing as nobody really knows what Dell is planning to do in the future while using new technology has to be a reality. The past showed a lot of popularity for the Mountain View, Calif. based company, including selling software to Sirius Satellite Radio, SanDisk and Fon Technology.
