160GB PS3 Coming In Fall
If news of an upgraded PSP wasn’t enough for you, how about a new PS3 bundle? Sony has announced a 160GB PS3 that will hit stores in November for $500. The limited-edition system will also include the rumble-ized DualShock 3 controller and two games: Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and (via a voucher for the PlayStation Store) Pain. Sony was less specific on other details, but the presence of just two USB ports on the spec sheet would seem to indicate that this is basically a “Core” model with a bigger hard drive–which means no built-in flash card reader, and no backward compatibility with PS2 games. Unconfirmed – Xbox 360 Pro Going To $299.99
Microsoft may be getting ready to cut the price of Xbox 360 Pro model to $299 from $349.00.
According to a source, Microsoft plans to lower the price of the Xbox 360 model with the 20 gigabyte hard drive this weekend, possibly on Sunday, just before the video game industry’s biggest trade show, E3, which gets underway next week in Los Angeles.
Several popular video game blogs and technology Web sites have reported the price cut is imminent. Many of the sites have posted photos of flyers from various retailers advertising the new $299 price.
A spokeswoman for Microsoft stated that there is nothing to announce at this time.
Microsoft last cut the price of the Xbox Pro in August, from $399 to $349, prior to the release of “Halo 3″ the following month.
A cut to $299 makes the Xbox 360 Pro $100 less than Sony’s PlayStation 3 with a 40 gigabyte hard drive. Microsoft is currently locked in a three-way competition with Nintendo’s Wii and the PlayStation 3, which comes with a high-definition Blu-ray video player.
Price cuts from Nintendo and Sony are unlikely. Nintendo’s Wii is still in short supply while Sony has said it aims to turn its video game business profitable this year, making a cut unrealistic at this time.
