Apple MacBook Pro 17″ Reviews

4 March 2007 No Comment

The 17″ MacBook Pro is the lightest laptop of it’s class on the market, weighting just 7.5 pounds, with the AC adapter included and 6.8 without it. It’s sizes are also very low, at 1 inch thick, 10.4 inches deep and 15.4 inched wide, being especially very thin. It’s design is very minimalistic, without any multimedia or other special keys, just the keyboard, the power button, stereo speakers and the touchpad with only one mouse button.  It’s connectivity is insured by FireWire 400 and 800 ports, three USB 2.0 ports, an ExpressCard slot, AirPort Extreme 802.11a/b/g and bluetooth.

MacBook Pro’s display has a 1,680×1,050 native resolution, which is the standard for this size, but there are laptops with higher resolutions. If you are a common user, that don’t want to use the laptop for extraordinary design tasks, the resolution should be great for you, especially for surfing the web or viewing movies.

Apple has designed a system to connect the AC adapter to the laptop magnetically, so if you pull the cord, it will not pull the laptop with it, it will detach and the lappy will be safe.

It comes with a software suite, iLife ‘06, which helps you build web sites, create DVDs and manage or compose music, edit or sort photos.

The laptop isn’t quite configurable, having a non-configurable processor, the Intel Core 2 Duo at 2.33Ghz, but you can choose from 2 to 3GB of ram, by adding $575.  It has an ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics cars, which isn’t the best for gaming or high end design, but it performs well for other common tasks.

The MacBook Pro comes with a SuperDrive DVD burner, at a 8x speed, has a battery lifetime of about 3 hours, which is very good for a 17 inchier. It’s standard warranty is one year and can be extended to 3 years for $349. You do get toll free phone support, but it’s limited to the first 90 days.
