American Airlines Sues Google
The world’s largest airline, American Airlines, just sued Google because of selling search words that involved the company’s name. This is just one of the many issues Google needs to deal with related to its pay-per-click advertising system, the main source of revenue the giant has. The web search company won more than two similar cases in the US, one with auto insurer GEICO, but still faces many claims both in the country and overseas.
Getting back to the lawsuit at hand, American Airlines accuses Google Inc. of violating trademark rules because of their practice of selling different search terms like “American Airlines” and “AA.com” to different companies. The web search company thinks they are covered. An official statement said:
“We are confident that our trademark policy strikes a proper balance between trademark owners’ interests and consumer choice, and that our position has been validated by decisions in previous trademark cases.”
The only thing American Airlines wants is that Google stops selling its trademarks and related terms. Web search mogul seems untouchable but really is not as last year they did lose a similar hearing against Louis Vuitton.
