Analyst Says the Palm Pre is Dying

You would think a phone like the Palm Pre would be selling like I don’t know what. That’s not what Collins Stewart Analyst, Ashok Kumar says. Earlier today, Kumar stated that the Palm Pre will be dead on arrival due to shortages, manufacturing problems, and “multiple hardware and software issues”. Here’s what he wrote:
Collins Stewart analyst Ashok Kumar claims that his supply chain checks indicate that Palm has “drastically reduced its production orders” for the Pre. Kumar says “multiple hardware and software issues” have forced Palm’s hand here and that he doesn’t expect the company to meet its expected goal of one million units shipped in the second half of 2009. He even goes so far as to describe that figure as “highly unrealistic.”
I really would have to disagree with Kumar. From what I’ve seen, the Pre looks like it’ll turn out to be a pretty nice phone. If manufacturing issues do come up, that would probably the only thing to keep it from selling well. What do you think? Will the Pre really fail? We’ll just have to wait and see.
