The Dutch robot Flame is the robot that imitates best human walking. You might believe this is easy, but if you look carefully at someone walking, you will surely see all the gestures walking implies. TU Delft PhD student Daan Hobbelen is its creator, and this is his PhD work thesis.
The robots mimics the way people bend forward and then place their foot to make steps. In order to do that, the robot analyzes the size of each step and then adjusts speed, stance width and gait, all set through stability algorithms. This might turn out to be a great breakthrough, as it could help patients with walking difficulties by providing them a new set of rehabilitation equipments and training.
