A team of researchers from the Purdue University have managed to create the first Active Matrix display which consists of transparent transistors made of nanowires. These tiny circuits created the display using OLEDs because they can rival with the brightness of the pixels from a LCD screen.
David Janes, researcher at the Birck Nanotechnology Center of the Purdue University, said that this demonstrates that nanowires transistors can be used in displays and other applications. OLEDs were the best solution because they are already used in cell phone and MP3 displays, as …

OSRAM is a company quickly establishing as a leader developer of cool lighting devices. In the front of their headquarters in Munich, Germany, they installed the Seven Screens which react at the traffic. OSRAM’s office is near the Mittlerer Ring highway which is one of the most crowded roads in Munich.
These displays are called Reactive Sparks, were designed by Markus Lerner and the technique is very simple, as a car passes around, it creates a spark on the screen. The waves on the screens show the traffic in the past …

Initially designed as a fashion element, Footlume represents a special floor fitted with weight sensors that send an electrical impulse to light the floor in a small area when someone steps on it. Imagine a party room with lights coming to the floor, on the dance rhythm; but if you prefer to sleep instead of having a party, this floor could guide your steps to the bathroom and back to your bed, without banishing your sleep. Anyway, if you have kids, they’ll just love to jump all day long on …

Based on the same principle as the large plants that can extract hydrogen from a fluid, Innovatek succeeded to compact all this technology in a palm size microreactor able to continuously produce hydrogen from any hydrocarbon source. This might have a positive impact on hydrogen based vehicles, because offers a more viable solution than storing and transporting highly pressurized hydrogen. This minireactor could use most any liquid fuel to provide a greener one. Innovatek specialist developed the alternative of linking more of these devices to obtain interconnected systems able to …

The Asterisco USB hub has all the functions of a regular USB hub, but what is more interesting is its design. The Mexican industrial designer Joel Escalona expected to get some serious attention with the 4x shaped device. The red little star’s looks can be compared with a communist symbol or with a cooking contest prize, a red ribbon.
The asterisk-form device has a USB port at each one of its end and you may say that it has a 5 star design.

Konarka Specialists developed a new material able to convert light to energy called Power Plastic®, which might successfully be used in fabricating of highly efficient solar energy cells. They used Diamatix Inkjet Technology to actually print organic solar cells offering the possibility to use solar cells at a larger scale, including low power indoor sensors or applications. Although Power Plastic is able to convert only 5% of light into electricity comparing to 16-20% for silicon, this new generation of photovoltaic cells can use even small sources of light and are …

We have been hearing of organic LEDs (OLEDs) for quite some time now, as they are supposed to be a new way to produce light with very little energy and can last for years before being replaced. Although there wouldn’t be much point in releasing to the market a lamp using this technology, because of the high price it would have, OSRAM has just announced their new product, which is exactly this lamp.
The desk lamp is called ‘Early Future’ and includes ten different OLED tiles of 132 X 33 mm …

I’ve Just took a look at this tiny ecological Toyota Hi-Ct, presented at the Bangkok International Motor Show, and first thought that ran through my mind was that this car is not a real one; maybe some car that just ran away from “Toy Story”, but definitely not a real car. Designed to sneak through metropolitan car crowds, Toyota Hi-Ct sizes are: length 3,330mm; width 1,695mm; height 1,780mm. This car is an eco-friendly hybrid, powered by a battery placed under the floor and offering the possibility to be recharged using …

Here is another folding laptop concept and this is very interesting because you might turn into a PDA or a mobile phone. The Flexi PDA is waterproof when folded up and it features some very cool flexible screen technology. This folding laptop concept is perfect for outdoors applications but I’m not sure how it can turn into a mobile phone.
