As if Bluetooth technology wasn’t enough to ease the way to talk on mobile phones, Ambient Corporation of Dallas, Texas, came up with a special neckband able to sense and process the brain impulses to vocal cords, even when we don’t speak, but just think about speaking. The signals gathered by the neckband are sent to a computer, which converts them into words.
Initially designed for people with speaking disabilities, the high-tech necklace might be used in other circumstances, such as speaking loud or on the cell phone in a theatre …

Technology development offers more and more compact solutions with every new invention that comes out of science laboratories. The Luxim specialists developed a micro-sized light bulb, about the size of a pill, able to light a street using 250 watts of power, enough to get ahead of a 400 watts one.
Luxim’s light bulb uses Argon gas to produce light. Electrical energy is delivered to a component called the puck, which acts as an electrical lens. The gas is turned up into plasma; it heats up and gives light. The light …

A new state-of-the-art pavilion, created by Zaha Hadid architects will travel from Hong Kong to Paris, via New York and Moscow over the next year. The Chanel Pavilion measures 7,500 square foot and is made of steel, breaking into seven feet pieces that can be built like legos. It takes one week to build the pieces and it will begin it’s travel, arriving in Tokyo next month. It’s design looks like a futuristic spaceship, probably one of the most extraordinary built until now.

Informations about a new room-temperature superconductor have been released to the media, as it appears that a team of researchers from Germany and Canada managed to put hydrogen under enough pressure to turn to a superconductor. Speculations that this fact might be true have been made for years, but nobody could confirm it, because hydrogen is the most difficult element to compress.
The new material is fabricated out of a silicon-hydrogen compound that the researchers called ’silane’. The silicon compound was not tested yet at room temperature, but the scientists claim …

The new technology called array-based memory has been under development at Nanochip, Inc. for 12 years, and looks like the time has come for this company to harvest their rewards for the work and money invested all this time.
This new system is expected to bypass current NAND technology, whose possibilities are limited by the miniaturization capability of lithography, and reach a level of one TB of data on a single chip.
According to Computerworld, Nanochip Inc. are backed by Intel and other strong companies and by 2010 the first chip is …

A team of researchers from the Stanford University, California, have designed a robot which could climb vertical walls and is destined to climb Martian hills and cliffs in order to find rocks that will help the humanity to learn more about Mars’s geology. The four-limbed robot is called Capuchin, it weighs about 7 kg and is faster and more agile than a previous robot, Lemur, also built by the Stanford University.
Capuchin is so much better than Lemur, it can climb 40 times faster than its predecessor thanks to an technological …

Leah Buechley designed several impressing clothing elements, but one surely deserves our attention. This LED jacket enables cyclists to signal whenever they make a turn, letting the drivers know where they are going and, this way, preventing accidents. It has a 40-pin microcontroller, a battery, an IR receiver and several switches.
With this new costume you should feel much safer when riding your bicycle on a busy road.

Technology strikes again! Another pleasure of men is taken away: here is the new Buddha Lucky Palm Breast Massager, a new device from Japan to give women pleasure. It is painted gold, has a Buddha plastered on the side, and is powered by AA batteries.
If you think this device was designed and build by men, you can`t help asking why on Earth would they do such a thing? Well, maybe because of the months and months of ‘testing’ the market, for a better understanding of the clients` needs…

The major trouble with the solar energy market is that most people across the Globe don`t want or can`t afford to pay that high initial fee, despite the obvious future benefits of changing the ‘fuel’.
Researchers from the United States and Austria are very close to solve this matter, as they announced significant progress toward the next generation of Plastic Solar Cells. These are fabricated from bulk hetero-junction materials comprising semi-conducting polymers and fullerenes, and have already recorded some promising performances.
Still, researchers are trying to figure out a way to control …

A study conducted by the University of South Florida shows that red-light cameras are not as wondrous in fixing the traffic as we thought. Barbara Langland-Orban, professor and chair of health policy and management at the USF College of Public Health, stated that these cameras increase crashes and injuries probability as drivers try to abruptly stop at camera intersections.
Red-light cameras are used to take a snap-shot of a car’s license plate if the driver doesn`t stop at a red light. This study formulates the idea that drivers are paying more …

DARPA does it again. Now, their researchers are trying to build a mechanical nanocomputer and some reports say that they are very, very close. This mechanical nanocomputer will be heat-resistant and energy-efficient and it seems like they will be useful for cars, toys and for guns among others.
The secret of mechanical computers consist of the fact they don’t have solid-state transistors or conventional silicon chips, so they can operate at its best even at high temperatures. Also they don’t need so much power to perform and so they don’t require …
